Christie’s Hong Kong Leads Asia’s
20th/21st Century Art Auction Market

Christie’s 20th/21st Century Autumn Auctions in Hong Kong, held from 29-30 September, realised a total of HK$956,533,000 / US$121,918,767, with a hammer price 116% above the low estimate, up 17% year-on-year. Leading the season in Asia was Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Ancient Scientist, which realised HK$76,975,000 / US$9,811,264 and anchored the 100%-sold Evening Sale. Strong momentum continued through the Day Sales, which achieved a 92% sell-through rate by lot and a hammer price of 130% above the low estimate.

As Christie’s marks 40 years in Asia, the Shanghai Auctions return this November with a thoughtfully curated selection of 20th and 21st Century Art and Luxury. Presented alongside West Bund Art & Design and ART021, the sales bring together works by Yayoi Kusama, Zao Wou-Ki, Liu Ye, Pablo Picasso, and other leading artists, reflecting the depth, diversity, and international appeal that continue to shape today’s global art market.
