The vase is finely decorated with two scenes from the Gengzhi tu (Pictures of Tilling and Weaving), illustrating traditional agricultural practices: Chayang (Rice Transplanting) on one side and Eryun (Second Weeding) on the other. The Gengzhi tu, a celebrated series of illustrations depicting the various stages of rice cultivation and silk production, reflects the importance of agriculture and sericulture in traditional Chinese society. Its imagery was particularly favoured at the Qing imperial court, where it embodied ideals of agricultural prosperity, diligence and good governance.
