Descriptif du lot

Across vintage wristwatch production, pink gold examples are generally encountered far less frequently than their yellow gold counterparts. During the first half of the twentieth century, yellow gold remained the preferred choice for most markets, while pink gold's warmer tone was considered more unconventional and was therefore produced in significantly smaller numbers.

Reference 533, however, represents a fascinating exception to this general rule. Introduced in 1937 and remaining in production until approximately 1957, it shares its movement and overall architecture with the legendary reference 130, differing principally through its elegant flat, coin-edge bezel in place of the concave bezel of its sibling. This subtle modification lends the watch a more restrained, Calatrava-inspired character while preserving the proportions that made the reference such a success.

Unlike most contemporary Patek Philippe chronographs, reference 533 was produced in greater numbers in pink gold than in yellow gold, an unusual circumstance that is generally attributed to demand from South American and Southern European markets, where pink gold enjoyed particular popularity. As a result, the reference occupies a unique position within Patek Philippe's vintage chronograph production, offering collectors an uncommon combination of refined design, historical significance, and regional appeal.
