ANTONIO CANAL, CALLED CANALETTO (1697-1768) Mestre etching circa 1735-46 on laid paper, watermarks Three Crescents above Letter A and Letters AS surmounted by Fleur-de-Lys (Bromberg 22 and 43) a very fine, luminous impression of the first state (of two) printing silvery and sharply, with great clarity and contrasts with wide margins a repaired tear in the lower margin at left, other smaller defects generally in good condition Plate 302 x 434 mm. Sheet 367 x 517 mm.

A related drawing in pen and brown ink, Canale delle Barche at Mestre (circa 1740-42) possibly served as a preparatory drawing for the print. It is now in the Royal Collection at Windsor (inv. no. RL 7490).
