拍品专文

Calvin Hatch was born in East Bridgewater in 1803, the son of James Hatch. A man of many trades, he was listed variously as a musical instrument maker in 1850 and then worked as a cabinetmaker with Nelson Foss and Isaac Packard. In 1829, he married Zilpha Palmer and they had two children, both of whom died in infancy. For more information on the Hatch family, see Bradford Kingman, The History of North Bridewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts (1866).

The chairs visible behind the sitters are by tradition said to be those sold as lot 742 in this sale.
