Consigned by the original owner, the present watch is an attractive and well-preserved example of the last version of reference 5513. Furthermore, it still retains its original certificate and box, enhancing its appeal to collectors.

Reference 5513 was manufactured from 1962 until around 1989, and is distinguished by its well-balanced black dial.

The present example dating from 1982 is fitted with the so-called Maxi Mark IV dial, first introduced around 1976, the name derived from the oversized tritium indexes. The Mark IV dial shows other distinctive characteristics, including feet indication first, open “6” in the depth rating, designation “Submariner” shorter than the length of the depth rating, the "=" sign funderneath the letter “A” in “Submariner,” and the “zig zag S” in "Submariner."

The colour of the tritium indexes of the present dial has over the years changed to a highly attractive cream tone, the case shows full proportion.

The watch is furthermore fitted with the domed acrylic crystal which is more appreciated by collectors due to is softer more “vintage” appearance. The acrylic crystals were phased out in the very early 1980s and replaced with a flat sapphire crystal, although 5513s can still be found occasionally with an acrylic crystal even into the late 1980s.
