David Shrigley’s Metal Flag is rendered in the artist’s characteristic comic type, creating faux naïf works. Metal Flag undercuts the apparent seriousness usually associated with written statements on flags: on the reverse, the inscription “No Wind Shall Govern It” ironically plays on the work’s material of metal making it impervious to the wind.
