Remarkably little is recorded about this artist who exhibited five pictures at the Royal Academy between 1840 and 1849. He painted many horse portraits and country scenes and his best known work is The Meet of the Hambledon at Freeshaw (1844; illustrated Sally Mitchell, Dictionary of Equestrian Artists, Woodbridge, 1985, p. 403). He included amongst his patrons Queen Alexandra, Sir E. Filmer and John Elmore.
